Troubleshooting

Why is my IPTV EPG not working?

An IPTV electronic program guide (EPG) shows programme names, descriptions, and schedule times. If the guide is blank, outdated, or shows programmes against the wrong channels, the issue may be the EPG source, refresh process, channel mapping, time settings, or player compatibility. It does not automatically mean the video streams are broken.

  • Meta description (149 characters): Fix missing or incorrect IPTV programme listings by checking the EPG source, refresh settings, channel matching, time zone, and player compatibility.

  • Suggested internal links (verify route exists): /blog/what-is-an-epg-in-iptv/, /blog/why-is-my-iptv-playlist-not-loading/

  • No guide data for any channel: check whether an EPG source is configured and whether the player can refresh it.

  • Only some channels lack listings: those channels may not match an entry in the guide data.

  • Listings appear at the wrong time: check the device, app, and EPG time-zone settings.

  • Listings are old: the source may not have refreshed or the provider may be publishing outdated guide data.

  • The guide is correct but a channel will not play: troubleshoot the stream separately.

1. Confirm the EPG source

Open the player's playlist or guide settings and confirm that the correct EPG source is configured, if your provider supplies one separately. Some setups associate guide data with the playlist; others require a separate source. The exact process depends on the player and service.

Use only the source supplied through your provider's verified instructions. Avoid unknown EPG URLs or websites that ask you to upload private playlist data.

2. Refresh guide data

If the player has a supported “Update EPG,” “Refresh guide,” or similar command, run it once and allow it to finish. Some sources take time to download or process. If the refresh reports an error, note the wording and check the player's documentation.

Do not repeatedly clear app data or remove your playlist as a first step. Those actions can erase working settings without fixing the source of the guide problem.

3. Check channel matching

Guide listings must be associated with the correct channel identifiers or names. If the guide works for most channels but not a few, the missing entries may not match the playlist's channel data. Some players provide channel mapping or assignment tools; use them only as described in the app's current documentation.

A channel can have a different display name in the playlist and guide source. That mismatch may affect listings even when the stream itself works. If the player does not expose mapping controls, ask the provider whether the channel and EPG identifiers match.

4. Check time-zone settings

If programmes appear several hours early or late, compare the device's date, time, and time zone with the intended viewing location. Also review any time-zone or offset setting in the player. Do not apply a random offset: first establish the size and direction of the discrepancy and then test one change at a time.

5. Update and test the player

Check for official updates to the app and device software. If possible, test the same guide on another supported player or device. If the guide fails everywhere, the source or provider configuration becomes more likely; if it fails in only one app, focus on that app's settings and compatibility.

6. Keep playlist and EPG troubleshooting separate

A playlist usually provides channel entries and stream references; the EPG provides programme schedule metadata. If channels play but listings are absent, focus on the guide. If listings appear but playback fails, investigate the channel stream. If neither loads, check the broader account, app, and network situation.

What to send support

Include the device and player version, whether the guide is missing for all or only some channels, the last refresh result, examples of incorrect listings, and the time-zone setting. Do not share your password or full private playlist URL in a public message.

Bottom line: verify the configured guide source, refresh it safely, check channel matching and time-zone settings, and compare with another supported device. If the source itself is empty or consistently outdated, ask the provider to investigate rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.

Publication QA checklist

  • Confirm the live URL and canonical match the intended route.
  • Verify internal links against routes.json and avoid adding links to nonexistent routes.
  • Confirm the instructions against current player/device documentation where app-specific steps are added.
  • Do not claim a diagnosis without evidence; keep troubleshooting language probabilistic.
  • Preserve privacy warnings around playlist URLs, account tokens, and credentials.
  • Validate title, meta description, H1, Article schema description, OG/Twitter descriptions, and visible article lead together.
  • Add only real, useful sources and original screenshots where available; do not invent tests, author credentials, or performance guarantees.
