What Is Catch-Up TV in IPTV?

Catch-up TV lets viewers watch selected programmes after their original broadcast. Instead of selecting a title from a general movie catalogue, you usually find a channel and choose a programme that aired earlier. Availability is limited by the service’s supported channels, archive window, and rights.

How it differs from VOD and live TV

Live TV is playing according to the channel’s current schedule. Catch-up TV is a replay of an earlier scheduled broadcast. VOD is a selectable library of titles that may not have been part of a recent live schedule. These features can look similar in an app, but they are not interchangeable.

How to find a catch-up programme

Open the channel guide or programme guide (EPG), move to an earlier time, and select a programme that is marked as available. Some apps use a replay icon or a dedicated Catch-Up section. The steps differ by player, and not every guide entry has a replay stream behind it.

Why catch-up may be missing

  • The channel does not support replay.
  • The programme has passed the archive window.
  • Guide data is incomplete, incorrectly timed, or not matched to the stream.
  • The app or provider does not support catch-up for that device or account.
  • The replay endpoint is temporarily unavailable.

Refresh the guide if entries appear outdated, check the device’s date and time, and test another known replay. If the same programme fails on multiple devices, report the channel, programme, broadcast time, and error to the provider.

FAQ

Can I watch any programme from yesterday? Not necessarily. Catch-up depends on channel and programme availability and the provider’s archive rules.

Is catch-up the same as recording? No. Catch-up is supplied by the service; recording usually means a recording feature captures or stores a programme, where supported.

QA: Verify catch-up support, archive duration, and user-interface labels for the specific service before stating them as facts.
